What I am reading today

New and Collected by Wistawa Szymborska

Death? It comes in your sleep,
exactly as it should.

When it comes, you’ll be dreaming
that you don’t need to breathe;
that breathless silence is
the music of the dark
and it’s part of the rhythm
to vanish like a spark.

funny coincidence: i went to my bookshelf friday evening and got her "view with a grain of sand" out, to re-read yet again. she just breaks my heart (in a good way) and lifts my spirit every time i read her.

"After every war
someone has to tidy up.
Things won't pick
themselves up, after all.

Someone has to shove
the rubble to the roadsides
so the carts loaded with corpses
can get by."
