Tarkovsky: “The allotted function of art is not, as is often assumed, to put across idea, to propagate thoughts, to serve as example. The aim of art is to prepare the person for death, to plough and harrow his/her own soul, rendering it capable of turning good.”

Well I think that is what he is saying, that the artist no matter what he or she says is writing mainly for themselves. Isn't that what you are saying also....
I think "great art" never tries to say a damn thing.
Oh and if you stop writing I am going to have to take the damn thing down.
I stop writing every single day. I swear it off. I divorce it. I kill it with knives. I put it in a blender and give it a spin. It keeps coming back.
You and me both. I also stop loving every day, that doesnt work either.
I'm really good at that. I'm a hater now. Yo.
Sure. Why not? All of it.
"...to prepare a person for death." Maybe that solves the age old mystery of why poets write about death so much. In any case, love the quote, but pardon my ignorance, who is Tarkovsky?
